Illinois Has Already Found 243 Stolen Vehicles in Just 3 Months
The first three months of 2025 in Illinois have been like the worst parts of the movie Gone in 60 Seconds with hundreds of vehicles stolen, but there's good news, too. State police have already recovered 243 of these stolen wheels in just the first 3 months of the year.
The Public Information Office of the Illinois State Police just released data from January 1, 2025 through the end of March this year as they continue to combat vehicle theft in the state. Check out these numbers:
- Vehicles recovered – stolen and/or hijacked 243
- Stolen vehicle arrests 16
- Hijacked vehicle arrests 18
- Firearms seized as a result of stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery 7
- Missions targeting stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery and related violent crime 39
- K9 used for stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery and related violence crime 16
- Air Operations targeting stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery and related violent crime 39
- Forensic laboratory assignments related to stolen/hijacked vehicle 1,304
That is a remarkable number of stolen vehicles retrieved. In just one incident alone, six suspects (yes, 6) fled in a stolen Kia when officers tracked them down and eventually arrested them. In another traffic stop, two individuals were found in a stolen vehicle that officers also recovered stolen firearms from. Like I said, the worst parts of Gone in 60 Seconds and it all went down in the great state of Illinois.
