Fastest Growing City in Iowa On National List of Growing Cities
What is driving the growth of cities in Iowa? Many factors are identical to what is driving the growth of some of our small towns in South Dakota - a more affordable cost of living, a thriving job market, and lots of opportunities.
With all that being said, there is also something about being in proximity to an even larger city that seems to push up the populations of these "bedroom communities".
Waukee, Iowa is one such city and its growth has been so tremendous it has landed not only in the number one position as far as fastest-growing cities in Iowa, but also 11th on the list of fastest-growing U.S. cities.
Between April of 2020 and July of 2023, Waukee grew by over 7,600 residents. It doesn't hurt that people coming into the Des Moines metro area look to smaller cities nearby to settle in.
Two major reasons that Iowa cities like Waukee and Ankeny continue to expand are simply that they have the space to do so, and they have attractive commercial and job opportunities too.
I guess you could say that being a Des Moine suburb is a growing experience.
