Cedar Rapids will lose another awesome restaurant this spring. It was announced yesterday (March 19th) that Lacayo at 1202 3rd St SE is closing for business this April.

Back in 2023, it was revealed that the NewBo District restaurant Caucho would be transitioning into Lacayo. Caucho first opened back in 2017, but the owners decided to sell the restaurant to Daniel & Armina Lacayo, which is how the restaurant got its new name.

Daniel & Armina have been serving up unique Latin American and Iberian Peninsula dishes to customers inside the beautiful space on 3rd Street SE for the last two years, but they have made the difficult decision to shut the restaurant's doors. The Facebook post reads:

"Through the challenges of the past year, we’ve made many sacrifices to keep our doors open. But today, we face our hardest one yet—we must say goodbye.

This decision is heartbreaking, but above all, we want to express our deepest gratitude. To our regulars who have shown us so much love, thank you for embracing us, for your unwavering support, and for making us feel truly at home in this community. We could not have done this without you."

Over the next few weeks, customers will have a chance to visit Lacayo and enjoy some of the restaurant's best dishes. Their final day in business will be Friday, April 11th. Lacayo's current hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday & Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. For the latest updates, you can follow the official Facebook page HERE.
