Former Bohemian Restaurant Building in Cedar Rapids Sold
The building that once housed The Bohemian restaurant in the Newbo district has been sold.
The Corridor Business Journal reports that the Maytk building, located at 1029 Third Street SE in Cedar Rapids sold for $250,000 in a transaction recorded on February 24th by the Linn County Assesors Office. The buyer of the building is a Florida-based business run by brothers Kevin and Kory Nanke. The two own and operate several other restaurants in the area including Midtown Station, Midtown Reserve, and Czech Town Station.
The CBJ also reports that a holding company registered to Kory Nanke also purchased the former Sykora Bakery building at 73 16th Ave SW in December of 2023.
The former Bohemian restaurant opened to rave reviews in March of 2021. The atmosphere and interior design were unlike anything else in Cedar Rapids. However, the restaurant, under the ownership of Mike Richards, closed suddenly in September of 2022. The CBJ reports that staff members quit citing unpaid wages. The building went on the market in 2023.
The Matyk building opened as a restaurant in 1893, and an addition was added in 1957 according to the CBJ. We'll have to wait and see what this historic building will be home to next!
