And while I enjoy the turkey, everyone knows it's the sides that make Thanksgiving great! Favorite sides can vary by family, and even by state. So what Thanksgiving side dish is the most popular in Iowa?

Campbell's has released its annual Thanksgiving poll on the most popular side dishes in America. They call it the 'State of the Sides' report. And while you won't see any shocking entries in the top five, some other stats from the survey are interesting. The top five sides for Thanksgiving in America are;
- Stuffing/dressing
- Mashed potatoes
- Sweet potatoes
- Mac & cheese
- Green bean casserole
What Thanksgiving Side is #1 in Iowa?
Campbell's breaks down sides on a state-by-state level, too. And while stuffing might be #1 in the nation, mashed potatoes still rule in the Hawkeye state! Here are the rest of the top dishes by state.
The Thanksgiving Side that is Moving Up the Charts!
Campbell's reports that there is one Thanksgiving side that is gaining in popularity each year. We're talking about mac and cheese! The cheesy side has the highest year-to-year growth rate of any side dish, up 20% in 2025 alone! And Campbell's states that Gen Z is a big reason why! They rank mac and cheese as the #1 side dish, and 70% believe it should be served at every holiday meal!
And how about a round of applause for the traditional Thanksgiving side, green bean casserole! Campbell's reports that it is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year!
