Threat Lurking? The 10 Most Dangerous Cities in Iowa
Iowa is one of the safest states in the U.S. In fact, it's the 13th safest, according to a study done by PropertyClub.
They say the state's crime rate is 1,618 crimes per 100,000 residents. Iowa and Minnesota were the only Midwestern states to make the safest list.

Despite getting very high marks in safety, Iowa is not crime-free. Unfortunately, no state is.
But what are Iowa's most dangerous cities? Let's explore what the results say.
Iowa's Most Dangerous Cities
Using PropertyClub's findings, the ten most dangerous cities in Iowa may surprise you. Des Moines, our largest city and capital, isn't number one.
The site didn't reveal the exact metrics behind their findings, but did give a reason why each city made the list.
Of the cities on the list, only a couple are in Eastern Iowa.
The list, which includes Waterloo, may suprise you:
- Ottumwa
- Davenport
- Des Moines
- Council Bluffs
- Burlington
- Keokuk
- Sioux City
- Fort Madison
- Waterloo
- Fort Dodge
For Waterloo, the site makes a startling remark on the city's level of violence, stating,
Violent crime is prevalent in Waterloo...
Also, referring to it as "one of the worst cities in Iowa to live in" due to its crime rate. Do you agree? I always find it odd when a study done by someone who's never been to the place they're writing about makes a bold statement like that.
Who knows, maybe AI wrote the story... It's even more bold of artificial intelligence to determine where you should or shouldn't live.
At the end of the day, Iowa is still a very safe state. That's my big takeaway from this study.
