Every year the Iowa Department of Natural Resources puts together weekly reports for the fall colors around the state.

According to the Iowa DNR, on average fall colors peak in Northeast Iowa around the weekend closest to October 10th.

Usually, the leaves typically change colors later the farther south you go in the Hawkeye State.

Northeastern Iowa: October 10th through October 20th

North Central and Northwest Iowa: mid-October

Central Iowa: October 19th or October 20th

Southeast Iowa: October 20th

Southwest Iowa: early to mid-October
