Iowa is Home to SIX of the Drunkest Cities in America
We all know that here in Iowa, Busch Light is the alternate state flag. But all joking aside, a recent study claims to have found the 50 drunkest cities in America.
And Iowa has a whopping SIX that made the list.
I don't think this is a reason to celebrate, but rather a tale of concern, even if the list is kind of... flimsy in its metrics.
Iowa's Drunkest Cities
The results here come from 247wallst.com, which, and we'll get to their metrics in a bit, found the top 50 drunkest U.S. cities.
They named six in Iowa as the drunkest. Wisconsin had the most on the list, 12 total.
But despite being a distant second, Iowa was still number two on the list.

Our six cities to make the list include:
- Ames at #41
- Waterloo/Cedar Falls at #39
- Des Moines, one spot down at #38
- Iowa City at #30
- Cedar Rapids at #23
- Dubuque at #7
Yep, other than Des Moines and Ames, all cities are in Eastern Iowa. Eek.
Shady Metrics?
To find the drunkest cities, the site looked at adults who reported binge or heavy drinking within 30 days across all metro areas in the country from the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps.
I'm certainly not saying the list is extremely flawed and inaccurate, just that using one source doesn't tell the full story.
Does Iowa Have a Drinking Problem?
If you listen to any of our radio stations, you certainly know health officials are running public service announcements, or PSAs, discussing alcohol abuse. So, yes, we do.
In fact, another study from 24/7wallst found Iowa as the fourth highest state for binge drinking.

Not a great look. Maybe we should put down the bottle or can more often. Just food for thought.
