To be loved the same way that Midwesterners love ranch...

When I moved out to Iowa a few years ago, I noticed two major things the moment I got here.

The first thing is that Midwesterners would give you the shirt off their back or maybe just the Tupperware in their pantry.

Another thing I learned QUICKLY when I made the move to the Hawkeye State, is that Midwesterners LOVE ranch.

I was absolutely shocked when a server asked me if I wanted ranch with my French fries for the first time. Iowans really do love their ranch.

According to Mental Floss, Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing is the most popular condiment in the Hawkeye State. Five other states also claim ranch as their favorite, including Arkansas, Idaho, Oklahoma, Utah, and West Virginia.

Iowa and these other states might have to hang up their ranch dressing lover crowns, because another Midwestern state proved just how ride or die they are for this condiment.

Ranch Chugging Contest

Over Labor Day weekend, the town of Belding, Michigan held a ranch chugging competition.

The contestants had to chug a 24-ounce glass of ranch as fast as they could, according to officials.

This event was hosted by the restaurant the Harmful Roester.

One man came out on top in this Midwest matchup. Zach Orvis chugged his entire glass of the condiment in just ten seconds.

In an interview with the local news station in West Michigan, FOX 17, he said,

“I’ve seen people pour about that much on their salads, so what’s the difference?”

His reward for guzzling all of that ranch is a $100 gift card and a free order of all you can eat wings every week until Spring of 2025.

While most things have a beginning and an end, for some Michigan workers, there's no end in sight. Changes in the economy, not-so-great 401(k)s, or love of the job are just a few of the reasons given for staying on the job. U.S. Money Reserve did the research, analyzing data from the US Census Bureau's 2022 American Community Survey, to determine the ten metro areas in Michigan that stay on the job well past retirement age.
