I was scrolling through Facebook the other day, when something amazing caught my eye.

Sidebar: usually you'll never hear or see me use  the words "Facebook" and "amazing" in the same sentence.

Three Iowa teens were the subject of an incredibly moving story on CBS Mornings the other day.

Normally, anytime Iowa is in the news it's about one of three things: Caitlin Clark, John Deere, or the Iowa Caucus.

This time, Iowa was thrown into the national spotlight over a simple concept that is familiar to everyone who calls the Hawkeye State home: Iowa nice.

CBS News contributor David Begnaud shared a story of "heart in the heartland." The segment aired on Monday, February 3rd and has since received a slew of great comments on social media and YouTube.

"As someone who's born and raised in Iowa, it's nice to know there are still good people here."

"Goosebumps. Wonderful kids, great story. We need more good news from the media. Thank you, CBS!!!"

"It’s rare to see acts like this."

Three Teens From Ottumwa Saved A Man's Life

Now, let's dive into the actual story...

In October of last year, three students at Gateway High School in Ottumwa were just sitting in their classroom when one of them saw something strange outside.

These three teens, Clinton Ring, Paul Clanry and Daveson Hartman are seniors at this alternative high school. On this fall day, Clanry noticed that someone had fallen onto the train tracks behind their school. Gateway is located right along the BNSF Railroad.

This is an active railroad, according to the CBS report.

So, if the kids waited a few minutes longer or a train was coming through earlier than anticipated, it would have been a devastating result for the man on the tracks.

Without thinking, the three students sprung into action and left the school to assist this stranger. Their teacher, Matt Erlandson followed them out to the scene, hoping he could help in some way.

Luckily, they didn't need much help and the teens were able to assist the man in getting off the tracks before anything dangerous could happen.

After the man thanked these students for their help, he was never seen around there again. They never even got his name.
